Dave is a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, providing a professional, confidential and non-judgmental environment for people to safely explore their difficulties, and ultimately make positive changes in their lives. Whether it be moving away from destructive behaviours, learning to manage complex emotions, working through family or relationship issues or simply dealing with the varying and often conflicting demands everyday life can bring, he works with clients to help them identify their goals and work towards positive solutions.
Dave is an integrative practitioner, drawing on a variety of therapeutic approaches, which enables him to effectively meet the individual needs of the clients he works with. He has specialist interest and training to work with eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder, as well as all forms of addiction, including substance abuse and process addictions such as gambling, pornography, sex, work etc.
Dave’s training and experience gives him a good understanding of the role that factors such as attachment, abuse, trauma, relationships and systems can play in the development and maintenance of “maladaptive coping behaviours” such as eating disorders and addictions. The use of Mindfulness techniques, particularly as part of a relapse prevention strategy, to raise awareness around non-conscious or “automatic” behaviours, is also a specialist area of interest. Along with eating disorders and addiction, Dave has experience working with a variety of other issues including: stress, mood disorders such as anxiety & depression, issues with emotions such as anger, abuse, trauma, family & relationship issues, codependency, loneliness & isolation, loss & grief, low confidence & self-esteem, work related difficulties.
As well as his private work at The Practice, Dave is the Eating Disorder Lead at a prominent private treatment centre in Surrey, and has extensive experience supporting people struggling with eating disorders and addiction, as well as their families, in both private and community based settings. Along with his work in this field, Dave is also able to draw on his considerable experience working as a commercial professional, during which time he held a variety of senior management roles, working with and leading teams of people to achieve change and growth targets in industry.
Dave charges £80 per 50 minute session. He is willing to consider concessions for specific individual circumstances.
