MA Counselling in Educational Settings, Member BACP
From £90.00 (50 minute session)
While Pam’s training was predominantly in psychodynamic psychotherapy, she favours a more integrated approach combining psychodynamic exploration with other therapeutic approaches. Her aim is to provide each client with the tools and strategies that best supports them while working to understand and address the underlying issues. This can sometimes include techniques such as behaviour modelling, mindfulness, positive coping strategies, journal writing, art therapy and play therapy (generally when working with younger clients).
Her approach to the therapeutic process is centered on the client, the concerns they have and how they are feeling about their life at the present time. In providing a safe and nonjudgmental space, the client can explore the historical perspective of their emotional world – thinking about their emotional past and the meaning and insight they assign to these emotions. This is in the interest of helping the client develop a clear picture of their emotional life, how it has unfolded and how they can deal with those feelings.
With 6 years experience as a School Counsellor and 20 years of experience as a secondary school teacher, including several years in boarding schools, she has broad familiarity working with adolescents and children, and their families. She has dealt with many issues including: anxiety, particularly performance anxiety in academic and non-academic settings; depression; self-harm, including eating disorders and risky behaviours; and self-esteem issues, particularly social issues relating to modern technology and social media, such as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). She also has knowledge working with adults in areas often relating to family life. Her background supports both short term and long term counselling options.
Pam charges £90 for each session.
