Matt Brooks
BACK TO PRACTITIONERSMatt is a counselling psychotherapist with a degree in Integrative Relational Counselling, specialising in working with psychological trauma and addiction. He has worked in NHS and charitable settings providing support for adult clients dealing with loss, grief, anxiety and difficulties arising from being a long term carer to family members. In addition to his private practice, Matt has been working in treatment centres since 2021 delivering a 12-step based 28 day treatment programme to clients addicted to alcohol, drugs and harmful behaviours. Matt has recently completed a training programme with the Laurel centre to work with sex addiction, and is a trainee Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, having completed his first of 3 years of training, learning to work with the body’s felt sense to relieve the symptoms of trauma and PTSD.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, Matt worked as a research scientist developing miniaturised test equipment; making the transition following his own personal journey of therapeutic growth and change. Technology continues to be a hobby for Matt.
As an Integrative Relational Therapist, Matt draws on a range of therapeutic approaches, adapting to meet a clients individual needs this includes working with aspects of the relationship between you, the client, and himself that may emerge whilst working together. Key to this, for Matt, is the creation of a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace, and in a way that can help them to find resolution to their concerns. With an interest in trauma and addiction Matt works with the stuckness and blocks that can emerge when existing coping strategies are no longer effective, and may have become part of the problem. When appropriate, this may include Somatic Experiencing bodywork techniques to promote resiliency, grounding and improved regulation of nervous system / emotional activation.
Matt offers short and long term therapy, in person at The Practice. Sessions last 50 minutes and Matt charges £75 a session. Discounts are available for packs of sessions purchased in advance.
