Richard’s wide-ranging training and practice experience enables him to tailor therapy to suit client needs. This can include brief focussed work as well as in-depth long-term psychotherapy. Many of his past and current clients have outwardly successful careers but find that they continue to struggle with issues of identity, anxiety or depression. Often relationships will have suffered or clients will have turned to alcohol or drugs in an attempt to deal with unresolved distress. For some the source of this distress may be linked to childhood trauma such as physical, sexual or emotional abuse. For others, their distress may be related to more recent events such as bereavement, relationship breakdown or loss of employment. For many clients, however, there may just be a sense that there is something missing in their lives or that they are failing to reach their full potential.
Psychotherapy offers a safe and confidential space to explore what can often be deep-rooted or unconscious processes that are impacting negatively on our lives. Improved awareness and understanding of such processes can then form the foundations for positive change.
Richard trained initially as a Social Worker, working primarily in the Probation Service where he progressed from working with a varied and challenging caseload of adult male and female offenders to a Senior Management role as the Head of the Probation Service in Lambeth. Opting to return to direct client work, he retrained as an Existential-Analytic Psychotherapist and splits his current time working for an NHS Trust in East London and in private practice.
Richard works exclusively with adults and charges £50 per 50-minute session.
