Psychotherapist, Counsellor

PG Dip, BA(Hons), Registered MBACP, AC

From £80.00 (50 minute session)

Katie is a degree-trained integrative-relational therapist offering short and open-ended therapy in all major fields of psychotherapy and counselling. She provides expert mental health and wellbeing support to adults and teenagers.

No issue is too complex or too trivial to bring to therapy and Katie offers professional help with a range of presenting issues including severe anxiety disorders, clinical depression, PTSD and other mental health diagnoses. Mental health is a broad field and clients also come to Katie for support with their general psychological wellbeing - often when struggling with the curve balls that life throws at us.

Regardless of your reason for seeking therapy, a crucial step is finding the right therapist - someone you feel comfortable sharing your story with and who takes the time to really understand things from your point of view. The ‘fit’ between therapist and client is clinically evidenced as the single most influential factor in determining a successful outcome in therapy.

Katie believes that good therapy offers you the opportunity to examine closely what’s going on in your life and to reflect on what this means for you. Effective therapy is also about working collaboratively towards your desired outcome as quickly as possible but without feeling rushed.

The heart of Katie’s approach is to forge a unique, strongly supportive relationship with her clients, setting the scene to allow change and personal growth to happen.

Whether you’ve woken up today at rock bottom; need help with a niggling problem or navigating a full-blown emotional crisis; or perhaps you feel it’s time to challenge yourself to fulfil your innate potential, Katie’s experience allows her to match her therapeutic approach with your exact needs. This may involve working together to explore difficult emotions; examining unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour; assessing the quality and impact of personal relationships; formulating achievable personal goals and working towards these; or maybe it’s about Katie ‘just’ being there as a trained professional to listen and really hear you.

As a registered life and relationship coach, Katie can bring a more instructive and goal-oriented approach to her work where this is desired.

Katie worked at a London university for a number of years as a wellbeing practitioner, where she gained valuable insight to the complex needs of young adults in education and she regularly works with student clients at The Practice. Katie has also worked with a broad range of patients in a busy NHS GP Practice. Formerly, Katie worked in the City as a corporate employment lawyer. She has a special therapeutic interest in working with people suffering from workplace stress; helping clients who are suffering the effects of trauma and PTSD; and counselling teenagers and young adults.

Katie offers in-person sessions at The Practice in East Molesey and at her home address in Surbiton. Katie also works online via Zoom etc and by telephone.

Katie’s session fee is £80 per 50 minute daytime session. She offers a limited number of pro bono and reduced fee sessions - please contact Katie via the online form below or on 07803 726556 for full details of her availability, fee schedule (including evening, weekend and child rates) and for information regarding medical insurers that she is affiliated with.

“Thank you [Katie V] for offering me a safe and comfortable space to open up about the things I’ve held in for so long. You’ve really helped me look at things from a different perspective and I’m noticing the change and growth that this brings, as are those around me who know me.” Sarah N, Putney

“[Katie V] always offers a calm and professional approach in therapy, even when I’m feeling all over the place! With Katie‘s help, I’ve been able to clarify the actions I need to take to move things forward, whilst never feeling rushed or judged. I would like to thank Katie for consistently being there for me.” Keira, London

I found Katie V‘s details on The Practice website back in 2018 and began therapy with Katie to work through my post-traumatic stress. Katie immediately put me at ease and over the time we’ve worked together she has helped me reach a place where I can look forward without the fear and anxiety that had plagued me for so long. I’m so grateful for Katie’s warm and compassionate approach – I couldn’t have done this without her!” George, Shepperton

“Heading off to university was a really tough time for me. I knew I was anxious but I didn’t really have a sense of which direction to go in to overcome this. Katie V was really great in helping me identify what was going on inside for me and she showed me some amazing tools to help me overcome my shyness and social anxiety. I felt really comfortable with Katie and we were able to work through the issues which held fear for me. With Katie’s support, I’ve been able to really turn things around with friends and I can now fully engage in uni life.” Yennah, 19, York

“…Sometimes challenging, in the sense that Katie V encourages me to feel ‘comfortably uncomfortable’, I’ve really learned how to speak up for myself and identify what’s important to me and how to ask for this. Katie is curious and empathic and I have felt really seen and heard in our sessions. This has been invaluable in helping me increase my self-confidence and I would not hesitate to recommend Katie V and The Practice.”  Anita, 34, London

I came across Katie V‘s profile at The Practice. There were so many practitioners to choose from but I chose Katie because of her background as a lawyer which I thought would be a good fit given my professional background. We worked together for 16 sessions, ostensibly to resolve issues at work but  encompassing so much more when we explored underlying relationship dynamics. Katie‘s approach helped me express and explore the bigger picture and resolve so much more than I had originally anticipated. It’s still a work in progress for me but I’m deeply grateful to Katie for her holistic and compassionate approach.” SH, London
